Ask the recruitment doctor: is there a gender gap between skills potential and actual experience?

Question

I am considering applying for a senior role as an asset manager for a European property fund in Dublin. One of the requirements is the ability to manage the financial reports through French. I have only a limited secondary-school level of French. Should I bother applying at all or would I be putting myself out there to fail?
