Consulting Engineer. Project Management & Building Consultancy Associate. M&E (mainly offices)

My client is an outstanding brand, I have personally placed several individuals with this firm and have excellent testimonials regarding the culture and career progression in this company. Predominantly working on large, prestigious commercial assets (mainly offices) the successful candidate will have bespoke experience and knowledge in M&E and will have previously had exposure to commercial real estate offices. N.B - This is NOT a design role it is a technical consultancy role with a focus on M&E.

The successful candidate will need to be technically astute, possess a friendly client facing disposition and possess excellent report writing skills (this is essential).

I am looking to speak with individuals who have a Mechanical & Electrical qualification/ bias.

Based in my client’s office in Dublin, the successful candidate will be engaged in projects in Ireland nationwide (and Europe on occasion)

Expectation would be to be office based 2/3 per week. Hybrid working is on offer 2/3 days per week – Additionally be onsite as and when required - estimated one day per week, my client is flexible and happy for the successful candidate to use this as an office day

The successful candidate will engage on a wide range of instructions with both internal and external investor and occupier clients.

The role will be varied with no two days being the same. The candidate will be working on a wide range of instructions and property types with an emphasis on commercial installations and operational real estate throughout Ireland. Work will include but not be limited to;

  • Technical Due Diligence (TDD)

  • Dilapidations

  • MEP Design

  • Technical Advisory, Support & Management

  • Energy Surveys & Assessment

  • Asset Improvement Planning (De-carbonisation and Net Zero Carbon strategy)

  • Life Cycle and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules

  • Project Management/ Monitoring

  • Supporting other areas of business as required

The successful candidate should be high performing and at the upper end of engineer level, looking for the next step in their career. The applicant should ideally be commercially experienced and qualified with a degree or working towards chartership and of a high technical level. Practical working experience (as working on the tools) may also be considered as an advantage depending on relative experience.

  • The Ireland Project Management and Building Consultancy team currently consists of 35 employees ranging from Building Surveyors, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Architects.

  • The wider UK & Ireland Building Consultancy extends to circa 450 employees including the Engineering Consultancy service line in the UK which has over 60 engineers of various disciplines.

  • Engineering within the Ireland Project Management and Building Consultancy team is new as of 2023 and it is anticipated that the team will grow over the next few years allowing for internal promotions.

  • My client has a healthy pipeline of work, and are engaged already in a variety of instructions and projects across Ireland including undertaking project roles in a number of EU countries.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Taking responsibility for the management and delivery of instructions to a high quality and in timely fashion

  • Deliver instructions (surveys & reports) from inception to completion with the minimum level of supervision to meet the project objectives in accordance with company policies

  • Undertaking and delivering surveys and reports including (but not restricted to):-

  • Purchasers and occupiers technical due diligence reviews of buildings including the coordination of wider specialist consultancy reports;

  • Vendors due diligence reports of individual and portfolios of properties;

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance Inspections and Reporting

  • Sustainability advice and Net Zero Carbon/ decarbonisation strategy

  • Preparation of Schedule of Dilapidations and support the Building Surveying team in negotiating on behalf of Landlord or Tenant;

  • Preparation of dilapidation provisional reports for occupiers.

  • Comply with company policies and management system.

  • To positively contribute to the department’s business plan and revenue targets to assist in achieving its objectives.

The ideal candidate will;

  • Have a sound understanding of mechanical, electrical, life safety and public health installations and an ability to assess their condition

  • Be sustainability minded with a passion and focus for new technology and decarbonisation

  • Be confident and proficient with commercial cost calculations and estimates

  • Have experience working with and/ or managing technical, specialist contractors

  • Have a network of M&E supply chain and industry contacts

  • Be educated to degree level or high technical qualifications with commercial surveying experience (we will consider strong candidates from a practical technical background)

  • Be of a design or operational background with significant experience in the commercial M&E industry

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with people of all levels of seniority

  • Be diligent, organised and pro-active with an exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload and act on their own initiative

  • Have a flexible approach to work with a willingness to travel if necessary

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills to present a professional and knowledgeable person

  • Be able to work as part of a team, supporting and working with colleagues and other departments;

  • Be able to build, develop and maintain existing business and client relationships

  • Be able to organise and prioritise tasks so that they are efficiently completed within an agreed time frame;

  • Be able to provide concise and clear written communication

  • Be sociable and an outgoing team player who deals effectively with colleagues and clients

  • Be confident and assertive where required but understands and appreciates the importance of using discretion

  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office and Windows applications

  • Have a clean driving licence and a willingness to travel within Ireland & Europe;
